Simplicity of Colour

I while ago I took photographs of dandelions with the vision of using them to make letters on a grass background. Recently, I have been inspired by the relationship between colour and white how fresh, spacious and non-cluttered it looks. By contrast, the grass background made the composition too heavy, to the point where i questioned if it was just excessive. The simplicity of colour brings the type to the undisputed foreground, connecting with the audience as a pure and fresh graphic.

Versatility of Water

Whilst at Trafalgar Square I took some photographs of the large fountains on a high shutter-speed to capture the water gloopyness. The free form splashes inspired me to create a font by extracting the water from the background, then by using warping make the water flow in the shape of letters. I particularly like "C" which resembles a wave.

TYPOGRAPHY COVER-UP

The 'open transparency' of British government expenses saw scanned documents blighted by blacked out information supposedly all for 'privacy' reasons. This censorship marks to me the greater picture of distrust from both sides; the lack of public confidence with politics and the paranoia of releasing information as a whole. I aimed towards a typeface partially blocking out words. Its interesting how revealing certain letters can make this legible as we fill in the gaps.

ABOUT

I am a British graphic designer and have recently graduated from a foundation diploma. I will be studying graphic design at BA (hons) level shortly. Recently directed towards typography, I am interested in experimental typography and making type from existing grids, photography and imagery in real life.
